Oh, Why Not?!

September 29th, 2008 Annelise Posted in all about me, tags 2 Comments »

A little late for jumping on the bandwagon I guess.  Oh well.  It’s a slow night around here.

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I’ll assume you’re playing the game and I’ll come to your blog and leave one about you {if I haven’t already!}

And while I’m here, I might as well continue with the jumping on of the bandwagon.

I am . . . pretty much in a constant state of anxiety.

I am glad . . . we decided to go to Idaho in a few weeks.

I think . . . I need to get working on food storage and emergency preparedness.

I know . . . I worry way too much.

I want . . . new bras and a new pair of jeans.

I have . . . way too many unfinished projects.

I wish . . . I could go on an amazing vacation.

I hate . . . stupid idiot drivers and rude oblivious people.  Funny how the two {four?} often go hand-in-hand.

I fear . . . being alone.

I feel . . . a little sick from Costa Vida tonight.

I hear . . . the fan and Samuel talking to his monkeys.

I smell . . . nothing right now.  But I did wake up at 1:30 last night to pee, and smelled the cookies Erik was baking.

I wonder . . . why I have such a hard time motivating myself.

I regret . . . giving up dance.

I love . . . my sweet wonderful family.

I hope . . . I one day hear these same words, Enos 1:27.

I always . . . feel tired.

I am not . . . buying Sam any more toys until his birthday.

I believe . . . there is a specific plan for each one of us.

I don’t always . . . shower.

I win . . . nothing.  Never ever.  Not once.

I lose . . . things and can’t find them all the time.  It drives me crazy,

I never . . . get a good night’s sleep.

I listen . . . to Sam’s silly cds.

I am scared of . . . being unsuccessful as a mother.

I read . . . way too many blogs.

I am happy about . . . where I am in my life right now.

What’s a Wife to Do?

May 30th, 2008 Annelise Posted in all about me, tags 4 Comments »

What’s a wife to do when the baby is asleep and her husband is on a campout with the scouts?  Blog.  Der!  Heather did this and tagged me, and I thought it was super cute, so I spent some time putting one together for myself.

Goal I Have

Lose Weight

Drop some serious poundage.  “Serious” poundage would be nice, but so would a good 10.  It sucks not being happy with yourself, and it sucks even more to get up the motivation to do something about it.  Believe it or not, I have been trying.  Old habits die hard, though.  Bleck.

The Town I Live In

Springville Sign

Place I Want to Visit

Denmark Windmill

Denmark!  There are so many places I would love to travel to, but right now this is number one.  I desperately want to go back.  It has been sooooo long, and I really want to share it with Erik and Sam.

Nickname I Have Had

Al

My parents were sticklers on none of us kids having nicknames.  That might be why having a nickname was always so desirable to me!  Then, when I started 8th grade at a new school, I got dubbed “Al” when one girl said she would never remember “Annelise.”  It stuck with me all through high school, and my family still calls me Al, too.

My Favorite Food

Cinnamon Rolls

It’s actually pork chops and chutney, but I couldn’t find a picture of that.  Cinnamon rolls are certainly a favorite, though, and just about anything else cinnamon.  Except chocolate covered cinnamon bears.  Sick.

My First Job

Friendly’s Restaurant

Home of the Fishamajig and Chicken Fribble.  I worked at Friendly’s most of high school.  It was totally the cool place to work.  It was a blast most of the time, and I thought I was so cool toying with the hearts of the cooks and dishwashers.  Seriously, Friendly’s was the place.

Age at My Next Birthday

26

My Favorite Place

New England Autumn

Beach

It’s a toss up.  I love New England not just for its beauty, but for its rich history.  And there is nothing — nothing! – like a New England fall.  I am also crazy about the beach.  I love everything about it, except for seaweed.  I would be either place in a heartbeat if I could.

I tag Julie {you’re not working, come on!} Caroline {please don’t take 9 months to do this one} mi Madre {she’s said a few times she wants something to blog about} Triana {your prize for making tonight so much easier is more work! haha!} and anyone else.  I think this is a fun tag!

Now, I am going to let my Pizza Factory dinner digest and watch 27 Dresses on Pay-Per-View while I work on my quilting project.

I probably should have given credit to the photos, but I thought of that too late.  Oops.  Thanks for the pics, whoever you all are.

Lots of Things I Bet You Don’t Care About

April 22nd, 2008 Annelise Posted in all about me, tags 9 Comments »

I’ve been hard up for posts.  Nothing going on.  No great pictures.  Not feeling particularly creative.  Just a bit booooooored.  Good thing Heather tagged me the other week, and now I get to tell you 100 –yeah, ONE HUNDRED– things about MUAH.  As Simon Cowell would say, “It’s a bit indulgent.”

1. There is gnat buzzing around my screen and it’s really ticking me off.

2. I get frustrated very easily.

3. I also don’t have a lot of patience.

4. I react really badly to mosquito bites.  I swell crazy big and get all red and lumpy.

5. I react even worse to Wellbutrin.  I itch itch itch and turn into the scary Elephant Lady –like my ear is so swollen it sticks straight out from my head, and I can only see out of one eye.  My dear friend Julie wrote, composed, and sang a song about it when we were waiting in the Emergency Room at 2 am.

6. I lose things and I drive myself crazy every time I do it.  I don’t know how many times a day I am frantically searching for my phone, my keys, my wallet, a pair of nail clippers, a nail file, Sam’s shoes, whatever.

7. Everything has it’s place.  I just don’t always remember the place.  Erik reminds me often how illogical that is.

8. I can never remember if it’s “case in point” or “point in case.”

9. I won an essay contest in 8th grade and got to be part of the Changing of the Guards ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in DC by laying a wreath on the grave.

10. I haven’t made a card in forever.

11. I spend way too much “free time” on the computer.

12. I am addicted to checking my email and seeing who has an updated blog.

13. I want to travel and go on cruises, but the thought of it also makes me anxious.  I wouldn’t know what to do or where to go.  I would have to go with someone much more confident in that area than I am.

14. I was one of the founders of the Mustang Guidance Association in 7th grade.  I thought I was cool.

15. I used to want to wear my Mom’s clothes.  She had shiny black spandex pants she wore to the gym, and I wanted to wear them to school with a t-shirt tie.  And I remember waiting in anticipation for the day I would be grown enough to wear her ZAM sweater.  My Mom assured me I wouldn’t want to wear it by the time I could fit into it, but I didn’t believe her.

16. I would make my own t-shirt ties out of Pearler Beads.

17. I miss dancing like crazy.  I am so envious of my sister for having the motivation, the drive, and the knee to continue dancing.

18. I am actually envious of my amazing, talented, beautiful little sister for many more reasons than just that.

19. I have a ton of insecurities that I manifest through jealousy.

20. I sleep terribly.  I hate my pillow, I get too hot, my back hurts, every little noise wakes me up, and I have nightmares.

21. I’ve changed pillows at least 4 times in the last 3 months.

22. If I get disturbed in my few moments of good sleep, I get sooooo mad.  If it’s your fault, I will most certainly yell at you.

23. I hate that so often my first reaction is to yell.  I do not not not want to be a yeller.

24. The thought of raising children terrifies me.  I have so many uncertainties and doubts about doing it right that fill me with anxiety every single day.

25. I am not even one bit baby hungry.

26. Seriously!

27. I weigh 30 pounds more than when Erik and I first starting dating.  Sickening, isn’t it?!

28. My lowest weight was 130 my freshman year at college.  [Remember, that's good for being 5'9]  I lost 15 pounds the first semester without even thinking about it.  WHY is it not that easy NOW?!

29.  I am probably the funniest person I know.

30. I told Erik he had to say that at my funeral.  He said he wouldn’t lie, especially at my funeral.

31. Pictionary is one of my favorite games, but I hardly ever play it.  I don’t even think I own it.

32. My favorite books are Jacob Have I Loved, To Kill a Mockingbird, Teacher Man, and A Thousand Splendid Suns.  All of those books are about people being treated unfairly.

33. I am always comparing, and feeling like I am the one being treated unfairly.  I raged at the fact that when we moved back to CT, my sister’s room was maybe 2 square feet bigger than mine.  Caroline offered to switch, but I wanted the front room with the big window.

34. I am such an unbelievable brat.

35. I really am working on it!

36. I hate the feeling of grass touching my ankles.

37. I wish I could be creative without being an idea stealer, but that’s the best I can do.

38. I would love to be a good photographer.

39. If I could choose any one talent to have, it would be singing.

40. I love window shopping, especially for furniture.

41. I wish I had a friend here.  The kind you can call up when you’re stinky and unshowered and say “Let’s go get a coke” and she would be just as stinky.

42. I wish I had 5 minute hair.  I can’t even do a ponytail in 5 minutes.  I just don’t have that kind of hair.

43. I am constantly re-reading everything I write.  I love proofreading and editing anything.  My dad taught me how to do that well.

44. I got a gym pass and I love it.

45. When I’m at the gym and Britney Spears “Crazy” comes on, it’s all I can do not to start singing along at the top of my lungs.

46. I do the elliptical to the beat of the music I’m listening to.  Wheezer’s “Island in the Sun” is a good one.

47. Wheezer makes me think of when my BYU dorm roommate and Julie decided to be friends for a week and didn’t include me.  It had something to do with my reaction to a cheese comment.

48. My roommate disappeared and Julie and I are now friends.  She more than made it up to me by driving me around in her sister’s Jetta and introducing me to both the Wendy’s dollar menu AND Del Taco chicken soft tacos.

49. It’s 9:05 pm and I am about to fall asleep in my chair.

50. I hate making dinner for just the 3 of us.  It’s seems like such a waste of time, and then I’m stuck cleaning it all up afterwards, too.

51. I love putting on a show for friends and family, though.  Then I don’t mind cooking.

52. I really like baking.  I make cookies or bread or some other treat at least twice a week.

53. I am starting to quilt.  I have a few projects in mind, and it’s very exciting to me.

54. I’ve been taking Sam to Music Time at the library once a week.  It’s been good for us.

55. One thing I really like about myself is that I am not afraid to try new foods, and I am not picky.  The only 2 things I absolutely will not eat are olives and shitake mushrooms.

56. Picky eaters kind of annoy me.  Fine if you’re a bratty kid, but seriously, if you’re an adult?  Just suck it up.  Don’t be a baby.

57. I won’t wear socks into the bathroom.  The idea of pubies sticking to my feet grosses me out.

58. I love my handwriting.

59. Laundry is a chore I am usually more than happy to do.  It gives me an excuse to sit down in front of the TV without feeling unproductive.  But I am really bad about putting it all away.

60. Emptying the dishwasher is by far my least favorite chore.

61. I {heart} Target.  No week is complete unless I’ve been at least once.

62. Summer is my favorite season for fruit.  I will eat a nectarine a day, no problem.  And berries, yummm.  Pretty sure I ate a whole pound of strawberries yesterday.

63. I can’t stand wearing jeans.  I’ve never once found a pair I love, and they are just so darn uncomfortable.  If I am at home, I am in sweats.  I don’t like jeans.

64. I am always trying to find the perfect mascara, shampoo, and lipstick.  No success yet.  I have found ones I like, but nothing I love.

65. I have crazy crazy conservations with myself in my head.  All the time.  I don’t so much talk to myself out loud, though.  Sam is always listening, so it doesn’t count.

66. I am super wasteful.  I throw things away way too easily.  It’s gotten worse since I’ve been married, and I think it’s an inverse reaction to Erik’s pack ratting.

67. I love math.  Algebra specifically.  I was actually minoring in it, back when I was in school.

68. In my 3 years of college, I had 6 different majors.  Dance education (I was going to open my own studio before I busted my knee again), Accounting (I wanted to impress my Dad), Zoology (thought I’d be a pediatrician), Elementary Education (still wanted to work with kids, but didn’t want to take Chem for the 3rd time), Undeclared (by this time I was meeting regularly with a counselor), and History Teaching.

69. Teenagers are much more appealing to me than little kids.

70. I have substituted every single grade several times.  First and 7th grades were by far my least favorite.

71. It makes me sad that my children will never have a dog.

72. Family is very important to me.  I want my children to have quality relationships with their relatives.

73. It makes me a little sad that since all my family is now out here, I have no reason to ever go back east.  I love all the history there, and I hope I can still share that with my kids one day.

74. I really want a green thumb.  I would love to have a garden with tomatoes and anything else fresh and yummy.

75. I am terrible at keeping a journal.  Almost every entry says something like “It’s been way too long, and I can never fill it all in” with a vow to do better.  I never do.

76. I wish there was a duck pond around here.  I think that would be so fun to take Sam there.

77. I am constantly organizing, and re-organizing, and trying my hardest to establish some sense of order.  Really all I am doing is moving our mess from one place to another.  Enter Erik’s cue to call me illogical again.

78. I am so afraid of moths and lizards.  I don’t care if they won’t hurt me.  They terrify me.

79. I love scary movies, but don’t have anyone to watch them with.

80. I startle very easily.

81. Bad grammar kills me!  Kills me, kills me, kills me!  There is no worse way to be ignorant in my eyes.  The worst is when people say ”I” to sound like they are smart, but they actually used it wrong, and should have said “me” instead.  I am appalled at how many people do things like that.  Ooooh, but so much worse is when people say “I’s.”  Really?!  I’s?!  “That’s Mike and I’s house.”  Seriously?  How dumb are you?

82. If you have bad grammar, it’s ok.  We can still be friends.  Just don’t say something stupid like “I’s.”

83. I love sushi.  I crave it often.

84. Erik bought me a label maker once.  Best present EVER.

85. I have at least 8 craft projects that I’ve started but never finished.

86. I love the smell of rice cooking and the laundry drying.

87. I hate the smell of raw chicken.

88. If you are still reading this, we will be best friends forever.  You and me.  BFF.

89. I am not really that into music.  I’ve never been on top of bands and singers and what not.

90. I am really bad at recognizing faces.  Every time we moved somewhere new, I would find people in school that I thought for sure had to be twins.  Not even close.

91. Although moving was always ridiculously hard, I wouldn’t go back and change it.  I think those moves did a lot to make me who I am today.

92. I am very defensive about my family.  Erik pointed that out to me, and it’s so true.  His favorite story is one time he said something about “Don’t be a doubting Thomas” and I totally lost it and went off at him.  Erik stared at me with his mouth wide open.  I had never heard that phrase before.  I thought he was making some jab at my brother.  Oops.

93. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was dump out a brand new box of crayons and put them in color order.

94. I am a crier.

95. I usually hate talking on the phone.  I can name maybe three people I don’t get anxiety about calling.  I am just horribly awkward on the phone.  I would soooo much rather talk face to face.

96. I Tivo Oprah, but only so I don’t miss her bra interventions and Favorite Things episode.

97. I watch way too much TV.  The background noise is comforting, so it’s on a lot.  My fav shows are Samantha Who, Lost, Top Chef, Project Runway, The Office, Medium, American Idol . . . etc.

98. I love that Erik will watch all of those shows with me, even though only some of them are also on his favorite list.

99. Sam’s naptime is the most precious time of the day.  I get super worked up if he doesn’t sleep long enough.

100. It only took me about a week to finish this post.

Ha!  Who knew there even were 100 things about me?!  Tag, you’re it now!

But Everybody Else is Doing it . . .

March 28th, 2008 Annelise Posted in all about me, jerkypoo, tags 7 Comments »

This tag has been going around for a while, and now that I’ve been officially tagged myself, I figured, why not?  I know you’re probably here for Sam, but humor me!

What is his/her name? Erik Justin Briggs

How long have you been together? First “met” in the fall of 2002 but that was it.  To my roommates and me, Erik was just the really sweet guy who noticed when girls changed their hair and remembered everyone’s names, but we had no idea what his name was.  April of 2003 we started “hanging out” and by the end of June Erik called me his “girlfriend,” so we’ve been “together” almost 5 years.

Medieval Times

How long did you date? From around June til December, then we got engaged after Christmas, and married the next June.

How old is he? Practically like 30. 29 in May.

Who said I love you first?  I wasn’t about to be the first to do anything.  It was for sure Erik.  But it wasn’t particularly romantic.

Who is taller? *sigh* Meeeeee.

Sooo Tall Ew, I hate this picture because I look like a stinkin’ giant.  I am NOT that much taller.  It’s a weird angle, I promise!  And, no, I did not have 79 cookies for lunch.  I’m about 6 months pregnant.

Who sings better?  Haha, it’s not me!  Erik can certainly carry a tune, and he has an ear for music, but I won’t give him a whole lot of credit for singing “well.”

Who is smarter?  We have different kinds of smarts, but Erik’s are probably more useful, practical, and important.

Whose temper is worse?  Mine comes out a lot more often, but when Erik actually shows his temper, his is lots worse.

Who does the laundry?  Me, unless I am going to bed when there is still a load in the washer.  Then Erik will put it in the dryer.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?  Looking at it, I do.

On our Bed

Who pays the bills?  I take care of medical ones and Children’s Place, but Erik does all the rest.  I feel just fine about him being the money man.

Who mows the lawn?  Erik, but not that frequently.

Who does the dishes?  It’s all I can do to get Erik to put his plate in the dishwasher.

Who cooks dinner?  Take-out, drive-thru, or begrudgingly, Me.  Erik hasn’t in FoReVeR, and if he does it’s Philipino.

Wedding Cake

Who drives when you are together?  Almost always Erik.  I can’t see in the dark and I fall asleep if I’m driving longer than an hour.  And Erik is a control freak.

Who is more stubborn?  ERIK!

Who is the first to admit when he/she is wrong?   Ugh, neither.  We are quick to admit the OTHER is wrong, though.

Who kissed who first? Same with saying “I love you,” I wasn’t about to make the move.  I’d done this dating stuff before, so it was all on Erik.

Colorado Waterfall Hike

Who proposed?  Again, Erik was the first to say the “m” word and he was also the one who proposed.

Who is more sensitive?  Me me me me.

Who has more friends?  I’m not sure.  But I have much more of a desire to be social and have friends than Erik.

Who wears the pants in the family?  Samuel.

August in CA

Now I tag Erik, because I’m curious to see a couple of his answers.  I’m pretty sure every one else and her mother has already done this tag.  If you haven’t, YOU’RE IT!

Oh, the Excitement!

November 9th, 2007 Annelise Posted in all about me, tags 13 Comments »

It’s Friday night and Sam has been trying to go down for nap since 5:00 (right now it’s 6:50).  I don’t know why he has been fighting his afternoon naps so much.  It’s way too soon for him to be switching to just one nap a day, RIGHT?!  Anyway, I think Sam is finally asleep.  However, Erik thought this would be a good time for him to take a nap also.  So that leaves me and my lonely self on a Friday night.  WaHoO!  Thank goodness Julie tagged me so I can at least PrEtEnD I have something important to do tonight.

Here you go, for your reading pleasure . . . 6 things you may not have known about me . . .

1.  I am obsessed, OBSESSED, with symmetry.  My sofa has to be lined up perfectly with the window.  My kitchen table has to be centered exactly under the chandelier (I adjust it at least once a day).  My towels have to be folded identically and have the same distance between them and the end of the towel rod.  My bottom eyelashes on my left eye are shorter than the ones on my right.  And I smile crooked.  Someone is smiting me and my obsessive compulsion for symmetry.

2.  I don’t usually eat deli meats, and if I do, I have to pull the skin off.  I won’t eat it.

3.  I hate wearing shoes, and even more, I hate wearing socks.  If I have to wear shoes, I’m always sockless.  But most of the time you’ll find me in flip-flops.

4.  I love wrapping presents.  It’s very satisfying and fulfilling to me, and I love making them look all pretty.  I’ve been keeping most of Sam’s birthday presents in the trunk of the car so I wouldn’t be tempted to wrap them too soon.  I know I would be disappointed if I had nothing to wrap come b-day!

5.  The thought of being alone terrifies me.  I see people eating alone in the food court at the mall and it makes me all anxious and sick to my stomach.

6.  One of my life’s dreams is to swim with dolphins.

Now I tag Becky, Rebecca, Triana, Heather D, Caroline, and Linda . . . if you’re as boring as me!

Bored . . .

February 6th, 2007 Annelise Posted in all about me, boring, tags 2 Comments »

OK, so really there is no such thing as bored when you’re the mother of a 12 week old baby. But Samuel is enjoying one of his short naps, and I’m exhausted, but I know I don’t have time to take my own nap (I never do with the way he sleeps!) so I copied this survey from Emily, and thought I would treat myself to a little fun. I should be moving the laundry ahead or straightening my bedroom or cleaning the bathroom or even showering. But I’m not.

2006 Recap

1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before? got knocked up, went to yellowstone (these are two separate occasions that are in no way related)
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year? didn’t have any then, don’t have any now
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? ME!
4. Did anyone close to you die? um, not this year i dont think
5. What countries did you visit? nooooone
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? i honestly feel like i have it all :)
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? march 10 the day i found out i was pregnant, june 27 the day i saw my baby ultrasound and found out it was a boy, november 13 the day i gave birth
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? wow, im seeing a theme here: finally having my baby after pushing for 2 1/2 hours
